About this listen

It's Dangerous to Go Alone!

Mia Strong never expected to be deciding the rest of her life at age 22. Is she willing to become a human lab rat? Does she need to write a will? Does she ever want a family - and if so, with whom? She can't dodge the tough questions - not if she plans to live to see 23. With her life hanging in the balance, Mia wants nothing more than to rely on Adam Drake, but he's hurt her before.

You Must Gather Your Party Before Venturing Forth....

Adam Drake knows that he's made mistakes, but when he discovers what Mia's facing, he realizes how much those mistakes could cost him. Now he has to choose between being the man who can save Mia's life and the man she can love. No matter how much it tears him apart, Adam knows he has to put Mia first...even if it means he's out of the picture entirely.

Will their love survive this epic battle, or is it game over?

This New Adult audiobook is intended for listeners over the age of 18 due to adult language, sexual content, and adult situations.

This novel is the third and final book in Adam and Mia's trilogy, but they will be featured in future Gaming the System novels.

Be prepared for a very emotional ride

I love a good HEA, but this one was difficult to reach! Not that I didn’t like the book–quite the contrary–but it was problem after problem after bad decision, so even the characters weren’t sure about a HEA.

The conflict here that keeps Mia and Adam separated comes from within–and from the couple’s history. So much has happened to them in the previous books that they come back together with so much baggage it’s hard to overcome. Insecurities, traumas, regrets… There’s a whole wall of emotions between them and they can barely see each other through it. It’s heartwrenching. If you don’t like very sad reads, skip this book.

The narrators did an amazing job conveying all those feelings. I was on the verge of crying most of the time.

At least, it ends with an HEA for Mia and Adam’s story, but be prepared for a very emotional ride.

Absolutely fabulous!

This compelling series just gets better all the time. Mia and Adam have, without doubt, been through the wringer and, in At Any Moment, they still have a thorny path to follow. Again, the narration is outstanding, with both narrators bringing the characters to life with skill and confidence. I particularly love listening to Jason Clarke who captures both male and female voices and captures the essence of their hearts flawlessly. Kristen Leigh is wonderful as Amelia, bringing her heartbreak and hope to deep emotional life. An audio that I found impossible to stop listening to and which has been an absolute pleasure 💖💖💖💖💖

Excellent narration

I listened to the Audible version and the narration was excellent. Jason Clarke and Kirsten Leigh both make different characters sound unique, differentiate between a character's spoken words and thoughts and convey emotion along with the written words. It makes it enjoyable to listen to even when the topics are sad, difficult or, at times, frustrating. I'm sure I liked the story more because I listened to it.

I really like the writing style and Brenna Aubrey does a great job with her imagery. She describes feelings in creative and interesting ways. The writing is really pretty even when parts of the story are sad. I had a lot less patience for the relationship drama in At Any Moment as I was hoping they had figured out what was important by the end of At Any Turn. If I was afraid that someone I cared about wouldn't live to see their next birthday, I would make the most of the time I had with them and I didn't feel like that was the case here. I was hoping this book would be about a couple working together to deal with life's hardships, but most of the book felt like a beautifully written and wonderfully performed frustrating step backward for Mia and Adam. I would like to listen to more of the series, especially because For The Win sounds like it's a little lighter subject area.
