About this listen

Amrit Kaur (The Sex Lives of College Girls) delivers a stellar performance in a brand-new enemies-to-lovers hockey romance by Sonya Lalli, the acclaimed author of The Matchmaker’s List and A Holly Jolly Diwali.

Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?).

Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder. Devin is yet another arrogant hockey bro—and admitted total babe—who is fresh off a scandalous break-up with a global pop-star. But she soon finds the ice melts between them, and they share an unexpected chemistry. As Ash wrestles with her family’s demands, her brother’s career and her feelings for Devin, will she find a way to take a risk and make her own luck? Or will she puck this up?

This captivating Audible Original is an essential listen for fans of sports romance, strong heroines, sizzling chemistry and the diversity within the hockey community.

Fabulous story medium narrator

Lived the story and the setting... Great new twist on the sports romance genre...
Never got used to the narrator speaking through clenched teeth when making the male voices... (at least that was how it sounded to me

Great narrator and believable characters

Such a great narrator and believable characters. I loved the relationships between the female characters especially. It was very relatable and realistic.

Fun and yet fascinating

This was an included with audible title, had some good reviews so what’s not to like? Except it’s way better than that. It’s really good. The narrator was great, really got the delivery spot on (although voice for little brother wasn’t the best) but the others were fabulous.

I loved understanding the background of the characters, with zero lecturing, just lived experience. Lots of humour, lots of pathos, and the main character is a charm. Although, sheesh, talk about under appreciated! But the whole story was enjoyable and memorable. I’ll definitely be reading more from the author.

Surprised

I usually sliten to dark/fantasy romance but thought I'd listen to something else for a change. I was pleasantly surprised that this novel had me gripped from the start. Brilliantly narrated and the story was refreshing, and ash taking back her power was just everything!

Funny and sweet!

I absolutely loved this story. It introduces a cultural narrative I'm unfamiliar with in a playful yet informative way. The characters are loveable, mostly, but you warm to the rest that develop!

Light, fun and I may or may not have shouted YES in the middle of a supermarket, but not for the reasons you'd think!

Romance and Responsibilities

This was just a really lovely rom-com. I loved how punjabi culture, racism, insecurities and zest for taking control of own life was all mixed in to this... oh and love!

Great story

Loved the story and characters. I think that's the first romance story that actually moved me. Narration takes a little to get used to. There are some awkward pauses in places that were taking me out of the story and the range in voices is not the best but it is solid when it needs to be. Decent one overall.

The look on the racism in your own family was astounding and also tasteful

I loved the up beat yet challenging relationship between the characters. The look on the family dynamics was amazing and eye opening for someone who is not of colour or suffers this family dynamic. I did not enjoy the fast paced steps in the relationship but I can appreciate that it is a symbol in the storytelling

Fun with some good messages

I enjoyed learning more about hockey and the challenges of being an Asian female, whilst listening to a fun tale of love and friendship
