About this listen
Jane is a woman without a past. She wakes up in the back of a car with handcuffs on her wrists, with a man intent on doing her harm. She escapes, but into the murky underworld of New Orleans. A mysterious man shadows her, and strange memories tantalize her. People want to hurt her, and an unearthly creature stalks the night. Insanity might be a possibility, but everything is horrifyingly real.
This sultry world is anything but ordinary. Instead, it is full of black magics, curious beasts, and the thoughts of a man who can read Jane's mind. She must solve the mystery of who she is or be forever lost.
Book three of the Lake People series.

The best so far and a little different
Jane wakes up in the back of a car, handcuffed and with a bad feeling, a dangerous man and no memory...thus starts a very good story. This is the third in the Lake people series and for me the best so far. The story focuses on Jane, so called because she is a Jane Doe. She has no idea who she is or what her life is and this is a story of resilience and of detective work. Behind her misfortune it soon become clear are forces beyond her control. The story involves the folklore of Louisiana and all the vibrancy, history and creepiness of the area. It also involves the Lore of the Lake People. The gifted/cursed la famille and the great catfish (you have to read these books to understand this). There is a love story within this but also a mystery and a fair bit of thriller.
A book that starts with a burst, slows and then builds to a good ending. A lot of "who are the bad guys" guessing and "who can be trusted, who can't?"
A very enjoyable book to listen to and I enjoyed the narration. There are some production issues in this book, not loads but enough to be a little irritating.

Another great story
Book Reveiw Of "Arcanorum" The Lake People Book 3
Author C.L. Bevill
Narration Melanie Crawley
Length 13 hours and 5 mins
I would like to start by thanking C.L. Bevill for having such a great imagination and sharing her gift by writing such an entertaining and unusual series of books, and Melanie Preston Lewis for giving me the opportunity to listen to and review this great book.
This is a cracking series of 4 books, after each title you are left wondering what the Author will come up with next, and how the story will be incorporated into the series of books, so far I have listened to the first three books in this series and each one is an improvement on the previous all gripping stories with a twist of the magic of the lake people and their unusual abilities.
The story starts by telling you about a Jane who was was almost murdered, and then it jumps to her waking up in the back of a car, handcuffed scared and no memory of whom she is or what had happened to her. We are taken Jane's journey of trying to find who out she is and recover her memories. Full of voodoo, black magic, and mystical beasts will she succeed and find her true love and happiness.
Although the book is part of a series, as with the other books it can be read/listened to as a a stand alone novel. The narrator is the same as in the previous books, and has a very strong Southern American accent, some of the words are rather long and I found that speeding the book really helped, I increased the speed to 1.40 on Audible and this really helped.

Great 3rd installment, narration still grates
Title: Arcanorum
Series: Lake People Book 3
Author: C.L. Bevill
Narrator: Melanie Crawley
This review has taken me a bit longer than usual to write as I just had to go back and listen to the first two for little connections. I won't give too much away but...catfish.
As usual this can be listened to as a standalone. In the previous fashion you are almost instantly on the edge of your seat for the character Jane. Being one of the Lake People or near anything to do with them seems to be a dangerous business indeed!
Get lost in Louisiana lore, southern charm, deep rooted secrets and a little magic with the third in this very compelling, beautifully written book.
Narration can be sped up or slowed down if required.
