Summary

One night three years ago Josh Roberts went to a party. The next morning he awoke to discover his mind had collapsed.

In a matter of days he went from being a fun-loving, seemingly successful 20-something to a hot mess of tears and nerves. Eventually he was diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). Since then, he's been mending his mind, rediscovering happiness and learning to live his nervous life. Anxious Man is the story of all this.

Told with originality, wit and great humour, it's an essential guide for mental health and a thought-provoking exploration of the millennial condition.

Different outlook to anxiety

Since being diagnosed with anxiety/panic disorder I've been doing everything I can to learn more about it to manage my own expectations from myself. I've read loads of "serious" books that get into the nitty gritty of anxiety, but this one just made me giggle at some points which to be honest I needed. It still has valid information that was helpful once again, felt more real as the authors own experience was referred to a few times. Would recommend!

profoundly honest and relatable

Having had anxiety for a comparably short time (since aug19) and only recently come to terms with that is what I have, having had 2 v scary panic attacks, this book has been so v well timed for me. Despite being female, so many feelings are relatable and the advice you give helpful in paving my way forward with this the right way and with kindness to myself. Thanks again v much and hope you manage to continue recovering from anxiety.

Warm, human and funny

A beautifully human and accessible account of life with an anxiety disorder, Josh puts a face and a voice to this condition — dispelling myths, informing and assuring the reader at every turn. For anyone suffering with anxiety, or knows someone that does, it’s a must read. Also he’s really good at the welsh accent!

well written, well read, completely related to it!

listened to it in one go! The whole book. It makes such a difference when its read by the writer. Brutally honest, funny and tender. As the mother of a 30yr old articulate, funny, kind man who is battling with chronic anxiety this book was a great insight. Also at 54 I am now realizing that I have suffered my whole life with chronic over thinking and anxiety.
listening to this book has shown me there's hope.
It doesnt have to be this way.

The author bears his soul

I loved this book. The author shares his deepest, darkest anxious thoughts which is useful to anyone who suffers from anxiety. I found it really useful to hear this insight as anxiety is not something we usually discuss in society. We tell everyone we're fine even when we're not. Although this book didn't really offer any life changing tips on how to get better, I just loved the brutal honesty of it all. It helps you to realise you're not on your own and it helps you to identify anxious thought processes. I have stopped trying to micromanage every aspect of my life to accommodate my anxiety since listening to this book. Thank you to the author for being brave enough to share your account of anxiety. It has really helped me to relax believe it or not. :) Hope you find normality at the end of this very dark tunnel. Best wishes. L.

Brilliant

I never really understood anxiety & depression but now I do. It is reassuring to know that it can be managed without drugs.

Excellent commentary & wit folded into a tricky subject.
