About this listen
Richard Brockwell, the younger son of Ivy Hill's most prominent family, hasn't been home for Christmas in years. He prefers to live in the London townhouse, far away from Brockwell Court, the old family secret that haunts him, and the shadows of his past mistakes. But then his mother threatens to stop funding his carefree life - unless he comes home for Christmas. Out of options, he sets out for Ivy Hill, planning to be back on a coach bound for London and his unencumbered bachelor life as soon as the festivities are over.
But Christmas in the country presents unforeseen surprises, including encounters with an orphaned apprentice, the first love he disappointed years ago, and Arabella Awdry, a young lady who is far more appealing than he recalled...and determined to have nothing to do with him.
Will Christmastime in Ivy Hill, with its village charm, kissing boughs, joyous songs, and divine hope, work its magic in his heart...and hers as well?

Good historical inspirational Christmas tale
This story follows Richard Brockwell who unwillingly returns home to spend Christmas at Ivy Hill, and Arabella who knows Richard’s reputation and wants to live a life of good works rather than marry.
I loved the old Christmas and winter feel of this historical romance. Both the main characters were strong willed, with both good and bad qualities. In some ways it is a redemption plot and I particularly appreciated all the spiritual content.
There are three previous books in this series — Tales from Ivy Hill. I haven’t read any of them but it didn’t matter. I still understood all the story and connected with the main characters. I did get the impression that some of the side characters were probably main characters in previous books. I think you would get even more enjoyment from the story if you knew who they were.
The romance was sweet and not cheesy. I enjoy the twelve days of Christmas as a backdrop, especially in a historical novel.
I listened to the audio book on 2.2X speed. It was clear and easy to understand. I liked the narrator’s voice.
This was the first time I’ve read a book by Julie Klassen. I enjoyed her writing style and the village feel coming from lots of different side characters. I may pick up the previous books in the series in the future.
