About this listen

Some cases aren’t as cold as you’d think. Kurt Wallander’s life looks like it has taken a turn for the better when his offer on a new house is accepted, only for him to uncover something unexpected in the garden - the skeleton of a middle-aged woman. As police officers comb the property, Wallander attempts to get his new life back on course by finding the woman’s killer with the aid of his daughter, Linda. But when another discovery is made in the garden, Wallander is forced to delve further back into the area's past.

A treat for fans and new listeners alike, this is a never before published Kurt Wallander novella.

A short lost Wallander gem

Only a few hours long, this is a short Wallander story but contains all the usual ingredients, that Kurt fans have come to love; a curmudgeonly Kurt, a difficult procedural, an insightful resolution. It ended unexpectedly early however as the last chapter is an excellent autobiographical piece by Mankell, explaining the genesis of the story, and the difficulty of writing Kurt and particularly of tackling the dark areas of the human psyche that his subjects address. A good listen. And a great pity to think that there will be no more. Rest easy Henning Mankell.

Really enjoyed this excellent production - both Mankell's story telling and Sean Barrett's delivery is excellent as always

such a poignant book, in so many ways ..

I have whizzed through listening to this one, I was on a real Henning Mankell binge ... I just love his writing ... the way he touches on or brings important social issues of the day into his stories. A truly fine writer, a much to be admired hero in Wallander, and a narration par excellence by the superb Sean Barrett. what a way to spend precious hours listening to such talent.
