Summary
From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Thea Harrison comes the first in a new spellbinding trilogy....
Power can change a person....
For months, Molly Sullivan endures the inexplicable: electrical surges, car breakdowns, visions. She even wonders if she might be the cause...and wonders if she might be crazy. Then she discovers her husband has cheated on her. Again. Now Molly realizes she is a newly awakening witch and a woman pushed over the edge.
Revenge can shape a person....
Josiah Mason is a powerful witch and the leader of a secret coven with a shared goal: to destroy an ancient enemy who has ruined many lives. Josiah lost years to this man, and his sole focus is revenge. He’s prepared for every contingency - except encountering a beautiful new witch who understands nothing of the immense power building within her or the attraction she wields over him.
Danger can bring them together....
When divorcing her husband, Molly uncovers a dangerous secret he’s willing to kill to protect. She turns to Josiah for help, and they discover a connection between Molly’s husband and Josiah’s enemy.
As they work together, a spark ignites between them that threatens to become an inferno. But Molly is done compromising herself for any man, and Josiah’s mission is his top priority. And the enemy is cunning, cruel, and drawing ever closer.
As the danger escalates, so does the tension between them. Is a lasting relationship possible? Will either of them live long enough to try?

3.5 stars (mostly good)
I did enjoy this on the whole, but the relationship didn’t grab me much emotionally, and there were parts of the plot that seemed to just be summaries of what they got up to which disrupted the flow. The narrator was decent, but their male voice didn’t suit a lead character and wasn’t sexy. This might have had an impact on how engaged I was with the story. Having said all that, there were plenty of good points too about the plot and I’ll still get more books by this author. I’ve just enjoyed some of this author’s other books much more.

A Great Start to a New Series
A Great Start To A New Series That Kept Me Gripped.
Thea Harrison is a new-to-me author but I loved her writing style; it was intelligent and articulate with a beautifully constructed plot line, a set of characters with believable personalities and a balanced mix of action, suspense, thriller and romance scenes. I haven't heard narrations by Sophie Eastlake before either and thought she enhanced rather than hampered my enjoyment of the story; I found myself devouring this book.
The premise for this story really piqued my interest - it was refreshing to read about a protagonist of Molly's age (almost 40),- and I liked the balance of genres; removing the paranormal element, this story could sit happily in the suspense thriller or women's fiction genres. Add in the paranormal aspect of Magic and a world or supernatural species inhabiting our world.
Although this is the first book in a new series, there are no perilous life-or-death cliffhanger endings. Having said that, there are enough story threads left unresolved to carry forward to subsequent books.
I definitely got caught up with this story and liked the way it was told from both Molly's and Josiah's perspectives and can't wait to see where Ms Harrison takes the story next.
