Summary
After thousands of years, they're back...
Awkward outcast omega Emery Jones isn't expecting to find anything more than adventure when he leaves his favorite hiking path and follows a strange series of markers through the woods...and he's certainly not expecting to come face to face with the most gorgeous man he's ever seen. He's instantly smitten, but there's one problem - his dream guy insists that he's a dragon prince from another time, and Emery is his fated mate!
After thousands of years in stasis, Coryphaeus of Novis, the draconian Crown Prince, has been awakened by a kiss from his fated mate. But when the shy little omega denies his draconian heritage and tells Cory that dragons are nothing more than fairytales, Cory knows that the world isn't as he remembers it. The dragons that once ruled the world are gone.
It's too bad the threat they previously faced hasn't gone extinct, too...
Alpha Awakened is the first book in the Waking the Dragons series and features literally rock-hard hunks, a mom who knows way too much, a perilous threat that transcends time, and a HEA just as legendary as the dragons in it. This 52,000 word audiobook contains mpreg and is intended for adults only...did you really expect anything less from Susi Hawke and Piper Scott?
Let our dragons sweep you off your feet…and into the starry night skies of Eureka Springs!

Enjoyable start to a new series
This was my first experience with Susi and Piper writing together and of Colin Darcy narrating.
Omega Emory stumbles across an amazing scene whilst walking through the forest. He sees people running and walking then entering a cave, all without noticing Emory. Following them into the cave he stumbles across the four men but all are now made of stone. The most stunning man draws him in and upon laying a kiss to his lips, he awakens from his stone stasis and tells the most incredible tale! A dragon prince from a different time!
Coryphaeus of Novis, the draconian Crown Prince, has been awakened by his fated mate which he instantly knows but times have changed, dragons are no longer known and Emory does not know what lies within himself. Their instant attraction leads to a connection neither can deny but convincing Emory of the truth proves much harder! And then there is the trouble that has followed Coryphaeus through time!
I love shifter stories with dragons, so regal and strong. This story is a good starter for a series but I think could become even more once we get to meet the rest of Coryphaeus's men and their mates, along with more detail of the dangers that have followed and kept track of the men across time.
Emory is sweet and loving, as you expect an omega to be. It's interesting the way that omegas are treated in his present day, being studied by government personnel to try and understand why he is and how his body works. Coryphaeus is an obvious alpha - protective, strong and full of love for his omega that comes across clear as anything from the moment they meet. He does experience moments of insecurity when Emory doesn't sense what he does initially and finding himself in a completely different time period is very disconcerting. He never stops saying how he wants to go back for his men which is an endearing quality to have. Both MC's are well written and I'm hoping to see more of their development in future books.
Emory's mum is a wonderful character, adding to the support both MC's get and lighter moments as the person with a sunny personality though the outcome of her foresight can leave a little to be desired. We also have the kooky, anti-government guy in Sam and am looking forward to more from him in book 2.
I'd recommend this book to fans of shifter stories, we don't get a lot of time with them in dragon form but I'm hoping that changes with more dragons present in the story.
I received an ARC of this book and am happily giving a review

A great story
Emory Jones always thought he was a loner, the odd one out who would never fit anywhere. Until the day he goes on a hiking trip and finds a the handsome statue of a man in a cavern. Unable to resist his appeal, Emory kisses the statue... Only to bring it alive, claiming to be his soul mate...
Coryphaeus of Novis' last memory is about war and running away from his enemies. But he knows from the moment he wakes up that the young man who's brought him back is a dragon, and his soul mate. Although it seems that convincing Emory of that is going to take some time an effort
This was a really entertaining story, full of humour and romance. I really liked how Cory reacted to the modern world, there were hilarious moments there, but I also enjoyed his fierceness and his desire to adapt. As for Emory, he is cute and stronger than he thought, and he finds in Cory the stimuli to develop his full potential. There is also an interesting world building, some mystery and a lot of questions I need answers for...
Colin narration is the perfect leading line for this story. He smoothly takes you through the ups of downs of Emory's and Cory's relationship, and his changes of accents and pitch give the narration at extra that makes it really enjoyable
Highly recommendable.

Great narration!
The narrator does a great job portraying characters in the story. He manages to give everyone a distinct voice, suiting and complementing the characters.
The story has an interesting premise with a fairytale feel to it.
The authors are being quite vague on some details, but with more books in the series there's hope they're just keeping some secrets to be revealed later in the series.
Overall this book is an easy and quick read with sweet characters and low to non-angst.

Dragons awakened! Great series starter...
I love dragons. This story is about the awakening of dragons put to “sleep” as a way to save the race long time ago. A very sweet omega, who is looked like a weird pet in society gets lucky enough to find the alpha dragons asleep and snatch one for himself, the dracon heir no less, while putting his life in danger. Great story, great characters and a well done narration.

better than the book
never thought that the audible version would turn out better than book. even though I loved the book. the brilliant writing of Susi and Piper than to add the narrator Colin Darcy brought the characters to life. especially when he spoke Cory's words and Emery's mum. it be cross between reading or listening. well done to all three can't wait to listen to the rest of the series.

Awakened now
A very good portrayal of the story. The narrator picks up the nuances of emotion within the story and overall it is pleasing to listen to.

Good story, great narration
Many shifter books can get a bit 'samey' but I liked the fact that this one is a bit different. Emery feels drawn to a path in the woods whilst hiking and follows a strange group of gorgeous men in to a cave with cave where he finds a group of lifelike statues that look exactly like the men he's just been following. When one of them comes to life and swears he's dragon, Emery decides to take him home to try and work out the mystery! The story is good and is clearly the first in a series where all of the 'dragons' will be coming to life. I liked the story, but I definitely felt like the narration elevated it and made it more enjoyable!

New to me.
I’ve read a couple by these authors individually but not as a collaboration, this is my first audio by them and also Colin Darcy the narrator. I really enjoyed the I’m a big bad Dragon vibe that Cory tried for, even in a world so far removed from the one he remembers. I like the way Emery, who has been an outcast all his life, finds a purpose. The secondary characters are interesting, I feel that Sam is going to play heavily in the next book. The groundwork has been laid for more in the series.
Colin Darcy is a new to me narrator. I like him! All the characters had distinct and easily recognisable voices and the book was performed well.
