Summary

Detroit mortgage broker Mark Unger adored his wife Florence and their two young sons. But after a decade of marriage and increasing financial trouble, Mark's life began to slowly unravel. He became addicted to pain killers and gambling, and ended up spending five months in rehab.

Forced to go back to work, Flo became bitter and resentful of Mark and began to have an affair with one of his friends. When Mark returned home and his disability checks weren't enough to make ends meet, Flo filed for divorce.

Panicked by the thought losing her, Mark did everything he could to win Flo back. Even though she resisted his efforts, Flo did agree to a weekend getaway at the family's favorite lakeside resort. But after their first night there, Flo went missing...and the next day her corpse was found floating in the water. Mark claimed that her death was an accident - one that must have happened while he was up at the cottage putting the kids to sleep. But soon a jury would be convinced of what Flo's friends and family believed to be true: that Flo would never have been alone on the boat dock that night because she was deathly afraid of the dark.

Boring unless your a lawyer

To in-depth into the in and outs of law, not a lot of story content

?

I find it difficult to review true crime as one can hardly say it was very enjoyable, it didn’t really feel like true crime. I liked the fact that not much prominence was given to the accused, obviously that’s what it was about, but I’m not happy when books give, however, inadvertently, a kind of kudos to the accused.
Which they often really enjoy. I was interested in the court case but I’m a lawyer so I enjoy things like that again, do I really mean “enjoy”? No, probably I mean interested. However, given that the trial was eight weeks long, and I do appreciate that they’re pretty boring most of the time, I think it could’ve been more in depth in the time it had.

Looooong winded

Found it really hard to get through this book, the narrator obviously tried to make it sound more interesting than it was. I think that if the writer had reduced silly little unnecessary details to a minimum, stopped trying to make it sound like a story teller and stuck to a time line & history, this would of been a lot more interesting. It’s a 2/5 for me

Found the book very long winded verging on Boring

I prefer a book to paint a fuller picture of the main characters .,this focused very much on the trial. It became boring ,I did struggle to finish.

Couldn't get past the first chapter

This book is not my type of book that I would listen to. I couldn't even get past the first chapter as it was too long.
