About this listen
Welcome to Thornwaite, a quaint village tucked up in England’s beautiful but rainy Lake District...where homecomings happen and surprises are in store for the four Holley sisters....
Anna Holley, the third of four sisters, has always felt a little bit forgotten. A family tragedy when she was a child had her retreating deep into shyness, and social anxiety kept her on the fringes of the cozy chaos of the busy vicarage.
After several years away from home, Anna returns for Christmas...and an important announcement from her father. As much as she once loved the village, coming back is hard and puts Anna’s social capabilities to the test.
Avoiding her sisters’ bossy questions, she heads out to the local pub one night, and meets a handsome stranger nursing a pint. Somehow, unburdened by expectations, Simon seems like the perfect person to spill all her secrets to - including a hopeless, long-held crush on her sister’s boyfriend. Confident she’ll never see him again, Anna returns home...only to discover the next day that Simon is actually her father’s new curate!
Anna is beyond mortified, but Simon won’t let her retreat into her usual shyness - and for once Anna is forced to confront the past, and all the fears and feelings she’d tried so long to hide. But with his own heartache that needs to heal, can Simon help Anna to make this the most magical Christmas either of them have known?

Mispronounced Keswick
If I’d read the reviews, I’d have not started this as the mispronunciation is really irritating. The story is predictable and the reading really is dry and awkward. The story is bearable… were it to be read better it might even be enjoyable.

Light Christmas read
A not too Christmassy Christmas story, of a young woman returning to her family for the first time in a while. Feeling she doesn’t fit in, suffering from anxiety due to unresolved guilt, she’s gradually helped to come to terms with her past and face the future as all her family has to do as they too face into new challenges.
The story is well narrated - apart from the oft repeated bad pronunciation of a Cumbrian town
In a certain chapter the narrator insists on saying Kes Wick
While I live 300 miles away and know the w in is Keswick is silent (you pronounce it ‘Kez-ik’, with the emphasis on the first syllable), I’d at least expect her to have done her research.
That aside, it was an easy short listen

Not too bad !!!
I've listened to a few of Kate Hewitt's book's Inc the Willoughby close book's which I loved 😍, but I have to say this book just fell short of what could of been a really good story but it isn't a good story & the way it ended 🤷♀️ weird & as for the narrator who couldn't pronounce Keswick properly?? Who doesn't know how to pronounce Keswick ?? The W is silent a bit like the H in Thomas, pls get a narrator who can pronounce word's ... in one of the Willoughby close book's that's narrated by an American woman pronounce butty emphasising the Ts in it lol it'd be nice if Kate got a narrator who can pronounce all the word's properly in the book's 🙄, I've just started listening to the nxt book A Christmas Reunion hopefully it'll be a better listen than this one, really disappointed in this book as I normally love Kate's book's.

Old-fashioned
Found the mispronunciation of Keswick annoying. As someone who was apparently British being the narrator they should have know the “w” is silent.

Poor narrator spoils the audiobook for me
The narrator didn't even research the correct pronunciation of Keswick and it jarred every time she mispronounced it. Unfortunately this really irritated and took away from my enjoyment of the story. She also read some sentences like she didn't understand them.

Enjoyable
A nice short story. Easy reading. A great infill between longer books. Predictable storyline although quite sweet.

Protagonist a little too innocent for modern day fiction
The choice of narrator was inappropriate for a series of books set in Cumbria. I cringed every time she incorrectly said Kes-wick, but worse than that was when a gruff local barman appeared in the narrative and she voiced him with a London accent that would have been better suited to Bill Sykes in Oliver Twist.
It's a shame because it was sweet and cosy story, despite the leading lady being vaguely pathetic and I could have been tempted to read the rest of the series had a more suitable narrator been reading the books. Doesn't anyone proof listen audiobooks?

Sweet but predictable
Enjoyable listening but not very deep. Surprised that the narrator didn’t pronounce Keswick properly. (Without the “w”)
