Summary

Fiona Mahoney stands in the ashes of her hopes, facing her tempting adversary, Inspector Grayson Croft. Her sins are about to spill from her lips, when he says the one thing that could dispel all thoughts of revelation or redemption.

Someone is leaving the corpses on London's cobbled streets, and a name is being whispered in the fearful shadows. The name, against which Fiona would sell her very soul for vengeance: Jack the Ripper.

Old enemies and new friends join Fiona, as she chases a relentless evil through the streets of Victorian London. She’ll pull upon every contact in her arsenal, including Oscar Wilde, Arthur Conan Doyle, Inspector Aberline, “The Hammer” (a charismatic gangster), “The Blade” (an enigmatic assassin), and, of course, Jack.

Disappointing

Sorry but the previous book was far better - really enjoyed the first one. The narrator just ruined this for me too dramatic it was tiring to listen too, the previous book’s narrator was far more suited.

Excellent

Deliciously dark and riveting. Fiona has another mystery to solve as more prostitutes are being murdered and she is called upon to help solve the crime. This involves her taking up a position in a brothel and this immediately stirs up Inspector Grayson Croft's protective instincts in his own gruff way. Fiona also has attracted the attention of two other dangerous and wickedly sexy men and these scenes are quite tense. I couldn't help but think go on Fiona...what's the harm in assuaging your curiosity here before ultimately ending up with Grayson as I assume she will.
The mystery in this instalment is a real page-turner. I had my heart in my mouth as I followed Fiona through her investigations through the dark and seedy areas of London's underworld.
A brilliant read. I can't wait for the next one in the series.
