Summary
Death might be commonplace in 1857 at the Royal Free Hospital in London's Gray's Inn Road, but murder certainly isn't. When the body of Prudence Barrymore, a gently bred, dedicated and passionate nurse, is discovered stuffed into a laundry chute, no-one - high born or low - can be beyond suspicion. But the police seem determined to concentrate their efforts on proving Dr Kristian Beck the culprit - because he is foreign. Concerned and unhappy with this state of affairs, Lady Callandra Daviot of the Board of Governors asks Investigator William Monk to pursue the case...

A Sudden & Fearful Death
A really atmospheric Victorian novel . Very credible characters and an insight into the times that makes you feel present .
I r I enjoyed this novel so much . I think it would be great if audible released all the Thomas Pitt novels from books 1 through to 20 again please
Thank you

A master class in narration
Terrance Hardiman is a superb narrator and I don't understand why they have recorded all of the and Perry novels with a female narrator. She is not a patch on TH.
This is a book in 2 parts with the first half being a lot more interesting since it's the uncovering of the suspect. The second half is devoted to the trial which is way too long and tedious. Also the narrative starts to get repetitive with numerous descriptions of how peoples clothes rub together!

could not stop listening.
Good narration, diverting story. Anne Perry at her best. The historical setting of the book is accurate and atmospheric, the twists which the story takes kept me fascinated throughout.

Absolutely Excellent ❤️It
Terrence Hardiman is perfect for reading any audiobook and this one is a beauty. The story is a little long winded, but the voice of Terrence will ease you through a good Victorian Murder at the Royal Hospital in London. Anne Perry is well researched in her facts and all makes for good audiobook. A shame the same cannot be said for all the rest of Annes books narrated by a certain female narrator whom I and many other Audible customers agree "spoils the books" with her rushed breathless voice". Please Re Make these so we can buy them :)

Loved it
I've read the previous three books in the series and liked them, but not as much as I liked this audiobook. I like the characters anyway, but I loved the way it was narrated. It's a shame the whole series is not available as audiobook.
