Summary
Someone is making very determined attempts to murder inoffensive newly-qualified Doctor Humphrey Jardine. Could this be related to the body which he discovered in Hampstead - and which when he returned with the police had entirely disappeared? Or perhaps the odd circumstances surrounding the death of Septimus Maddock may be the key? Fortunately, celebrated medical jurist Dr. John Thorndyke comes to the aid of his erstwhile student to unravel the mystery....

Very early mystery great bedtime read.
The description of London by R Austin Freeman bring his story alive . I was lucky to have seen and walked in the same places many now gone . Again Graham Scott is the perfect reader .

Great Story
A story you can loose yourself in. R Austin Freeman writes imaginative and believable stories of the time, this is one I read as a book many years ago, I see audible are adding more of his titles, can't wait to hear Mr Pottermack's Oversight on audible, as well as " A certain Dr Thorndyke"

Long winded
I enjoy the Thorndyke stories but this is long winded and overly elaborated. Quite a bit could have been left out and made shorter. The Doctor on whom all the extraordinary escapades happen too does seem a little short on common sense.
