Summary

It's 1953 in Red-baiting, blacklisting Los Angeles, a moral tar pit ready to swallow Easy Rawlins. Easy is out of "the hurting business" and into the housing (and favor) business when a racist IRS agent nails him for tax evasion. Special Agent Darryl T. Craxton, FBI, offers to bail him out if he agrees to infiltrate the First American Baptist Church and spy on alleged communist organizer Chaim Wenzler. That's when the murders begin....

Great Story

I started reading Walter Mosley because John Grisham mentioned the author in the Racketeer. I have found this and other Walter Mosley books about Easy Rawlings very interesting. They have provided me with new insights of a culture very different to 21st century England. I particularly like the development of the character Easy. However, my favorite is Mouse, who I probably would not want to meet in person but always provides color to the stories.

fantastic series so far

I'm new to Walter Mosley. having read Devil in a Blue Dress, I thought I'd carry on the series because devil is such a fantastic book. This book didn't disappoint either. Fantastic writing, fab narrating. Can't recommend enough. I'm listening to these books and reading Chester Himes, or Iceberg Slim at the same time. fantastic. Wish Audible would do some Iceberg Slim audio books.

Stopped half way

Too many characters thrown in without developing any of them properly.
The main character seems to attract and sleep with every female in the story.
