Summary
Every person has that one thing they’re known for, and it doesn’t matter what you do, that one thing—whether good or bad—follows you around like a bloodhound for the rest of your life. For me it’s a story I wrote when I was 15. Forever more I will be known as the Reece the Rogue Pirate girl, instead of Josie Peterson. Why couldn’t I be known for all the cute children’s stories I’ve written about my family’s pumpkin patch?
Tragically, the torrid story I wrote as a teen was based on a real person, Reece Cavanaugh. And guess what? He grew up to be a pirate—okay, lawyer. Same thing. To make matters worse, the man is representing my ex-fiancé, who wants to steal my treasure, a.k.a. my engagement ring. If that wasn’t the icing on the cake, Reece has an adorable daughter who happens to be my new student. That’s right, I must now have actual conversations with him after avoiding him for half my life, even by hiding behind banana displays when needed.
But the more I get to know Reece—the real version, not the imaginary one who ravishes me on sandy beaches—I can’t help but wish we could roll around in the sand together. There’s a problem, though: The school I work for frowns upon relationships between parents and teachers. And it’s pumpkin season, which means all my free time is spent on the family farm. But when he kisses me, I can’t help wanting to break all the rules and get tangled up in the barn. The burning question is, am I brave enough to make my story a reality, or will it be another bad ending?
From USA Today best-selling author Jennifer Peel comes a curl-your-toes-and-cuddle-up-with-your-favorite-blanket-and-cocoa romantic comedy.

Sizzling sweet and hilarious rom-com
A Pumpkin and a Patch was such a hilarious read! This is my first time reading/listening to a book by this author, and I can finally understand what all the buzz was about. Josie and Reed felt like totally real, believable characters, and their struggles definitely tug at my heartstrings. Josie with all the issues that being the Pirate Girl growing up had left her with, and Reese with the aftermath of his divorce. This book definitely hooked me from the start and never let go. I certainly enjoyed that this wasn't a "fluffy rom-com" but rather feature a great growing arc for both MCs but especially so for the heroine. Truly, the lesson on learning to love oneself was beautifully and realistically portrayed, and nearly brought tears to my eyes. Of course, there are also other relationships that make this an interesting read (with family issues that need solving), while also featuring a sizzling sweet romance/chemistry (there's plenty of innuendo going around, as well as passionate kisses, but nothing further/left to the reader's imagination), and the cutest kid in Andy's character.
As for the narrator, she was beyond good in her performance of all the characters, but especially so with Josie and Reese (and especially him and his "sexy voice", or the "reverent way in which he said Josie's name" #nailedit). Seriously, she nailed every nuance of all the different emotions mentioned in this book, and I'm just really glad I got to experience it as an audiobook.
Overall, a sweet and sizzling rom-com that delivers on the romance and the laughs. Perfect for fans of the genre or the author's work. ~ 4.5 stars
