Summary

She is his student.

Sometimes...fate is forbidden.

Everything feels temporary when you've experienced tragedy - until Henna Lane meets Bodhi at a music festival. Young and spontaneous, they have a lust for seizing the moment, falling hard and fast. When Bodhi is forced to leave without a goodbye, Henna thinks she'll never get over him. But then she meets Mr. Malone, her sexy, new guidance counselor.

They are reckless. They are forbidden.

When their secret is discovered, Henna has to choose between finishing school - banned from seeing Mr. Malone - or dropping out to follow her nomad dreams. Henna chooses her dreams.

Life is not a destination or a journey. Some things are more than temporary. Forbidden can never be ignored. But if she returns for him, will he still be hers?

Contains mature themes.

The narrators brought this story to life!

I first read this book a couple years ago and it was my introduction to Jewel E Ann.
Her story telling is phenomenal and everything about her writing speaks to me- it makes me uncomfortable in the way that leaves me thinking about life, my beliefs, I can go from swooning to a heated flustered mess, to sobbing my eyes out then pulling hair.
This story was heart wrenching on so many levels- from swoony Insta-love turns into a forbidden delight- and a roller coaster of emotions and experiences in between- this story will live with me forever. Bodhi and Henna, Henna and Bodhi- FOREVER.
Since this was an audiobook reread, I wasn’t sure that I’d feel the same way… and I didn’t.
It was still hard to get Henna’s free spirit, she came across as reckless or maybe defiant- Bodhi was the opposite and I got him- probably because I could relate to him… They pushed each other and grounded each other at the same time- they just worked.
I hated the times they were apart but it was essential to this story.
I can’t not mention Barret, Bodhi’s dad… Mondays will suck extra hard because of you.

The narration by both narrators is exceptional- especially Stephen Dexter, his voice is everything I imagined Bodhi’s voice to sound like.

Really this is a book best read blind, but if you have sensitivity to some topics you should be mindful of ⚠️ Sensitive content/ and Trigger warnings dealing with grief, loss, trauma, and death and dying…

This was amazing!

Don’t usually write reviews but loved this book. The story from start to finish was well written with no unnecessary waffle and the music references throughout made it an emotional read. The characters are well developed so you can get to know and understand them throughout the story. The plot is well thought out, quite the rollercoaster, and kept me interested to know what was going to happen next. To top it off the narrators were great too!! Definitely worth a listen.
