About this listen

A Pawnshop Robbery: It's no rest for the wicked as Kate Shackleton picks up her second professional sleuthing case. But exposing the culprit of a pawnshop robbery turns sinister when her investigation takes her to Harrogate - and murder is only one step behind....

A Fatal Stabbing: A night at the theatre should be just what the doctor ordered - until Kate stumbles across a body in the doorway. The knife sticking out of its chest definitely suggests a killer in the theatre's midst.

A Ransom Demand: Kate likes nothing better than a mystery - and nothing better than solving one. So when a ransom note demands £1,000 for the safe return of the play's leading lady, the refined streets of Harrogate play host to Kate's skills in piecing together clues - and luring criminals out of their lairs....

Brilliant

Simple when you know, complicated when you don’t. A delight to make your thoughts work it out.

An excellent series

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and will continue with the rest of the series. I like the heroine and I like the northern character of it all. The only criticism I have is that I preferred the previous narrator (Sandra Hunt from book 1) because it took me a while to get used to the posh voices imparted by this narrator. Also would like to have seen a bit more of Sykes. But all in all, well worth listening to. Now I'll reach for Book 3....

Loved it

A proper twisty mystery. It has lots of great switches to give your brain something to puzzle over.

An intruiging story

I thorouly enjoyed this book. It started with a straightforward task, with Kate and Sykes looking for stolen jewelry, and slowly developed into a fascinating murder mystery with multiple strands and complexities. I couldn't put the book down and spent a whole day listening right to the unexpectedend. I liked the addition of what might be a new relationship for Kate in future books and the narration was excellent. I hope that this reader will be the narrator in future books.

Narrator better once settled into the story

Loved the first Kate Shackleton book and the narrator's voice worked so well with the character. Shame they changed for the rest of the books. Took me a while to settle into this story and get used to Kate having a different accent, struggled at the start and wasn't sure I'd continue listening. However, I did and glad! Anne Dover settles into the storyline and once you become immersed into it you really don't need to compare her to the narrator from book 1. I've already purchased book 3 as the stories are very good, a great length with lots of detail. Definitely recommend, especially to any having doubts due to the change of narrator.

Like the other review- almost didn’t buy because narrator change

But I’m glad I did! Amazing how jarring it is at first and how quickly you get into it! Another great story!

A good story

A good story with unexpected but plausible twists. More for a female audience in style.

A Good story

I enjoyed this book and listened to the whole thing in a couple of days. There were a lot of characters but it was not difficult to follow the story. The murderer was not obvious and there were a lot of false leads. I will probably listen to it again at some point. The narration was excellent and the book was very easy to listen to.
