About this listen
Cordell Atwood’s best friend and boss found a successful mail-order bride through a matchmaker, and Cord decides it’s time for him to marry since he’s started his own Texas horse ranch. With the forward town flirt casting her eyes from Marshall to him, he decides to write to the matchmaker as well. When Miss Moriah Williams arrives from Georgia, he’s never seen such a beautiful woman, but the moment he opens his mouth, she turns to ice.
Moriah Williams is tired of being seen as just a beautiful object that men want to possess. Since her parents are pressuring her into a shallow marriage, she decides to go west as a mail-order bride. Men of the West were known to be real, practical men who appreciate hard work. But she barely gets out of the stagecoach before her intended is telling her how beautiful she is.

Wonderful listen!
Are Moriah's looks the only this a suitor can see? The beauty believes this is the only reason the man her parents have set her up with is interested in. Looks and money. Well, there is more to her than that, and she will not let this controlling man be her husband. Being a mail order bride may be the answer. Those men have better sense, right? When Moriah meets Cord though, he immediately compliments her beauty. Is that all he sees? Does he not want more to his wife? Cord is taken immediately with Moriah. Yes, she is beautiful, but he knows there is so much more to her. How can he make her realize it? This is a wonderful story of self realization and love. It gives us a look at true friendship and what the west was like. Moriah herself is a bit shallow, but Janice Cole Hopkins lets us take her journey through love and faith to realize her own faults. Cord is sweet and loving and extremely patient. I loved this look at ideals that are still constant today and how human nature is just that. It's a fabulous story of faith and love and brings a warmth to my heart.
Douglas Birk and EJ Lavery bring this gem to life. Birk has the perfect voice for historical romance, and he creates Cord to be a man of honor. Lavery works through the layers of Moriah as she learns what love truly is. They both bring out the emotions and let us enjoy the journey.

Christian Historical Romance
Only a few women can grasp the concept of their beauty being a curse, but that's the underlying theme in this story! There's so much more to a person than looks, but I love how she comes to understand how her past has made HER the prejudiced one!
I enjoyed the dual narrators, but the child voices can use some work!
Overall, I'm giving this book a 4½ stars!
