About this listen

When two young Amish men find love, will they risk losing everything?

In a world where every detail of life - down to the width of a hat brim - is dictated by God and the all-powerful rules of the community, two men dare to imagine a different way. At 18, Isaac Byler knows little outside the strict Amish settlement of Zebulon, Minnesota, where there is no rumspringa for exploration beyond the boundaries of their insular world. Isaac knows he'll have to officially join the church and find a wife before too long, but he yearns for something else - something he can't name.

Dark tragedy has left carpenter David Lantz alone to support his mother and sisters, and he can't put off joining the church any longer. But when he takes on Isaac as an apprentice, their attraction grows amid the sweat and sawdust. David shares his sinful secrets, and he and Isaac struggle to reconcile their shocking desires with their commitment to faith, family, and community. Now that they've found each other, are they willing to lose it all?

Contains mature themes.

This was a beautiful and captivating love story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and immediately bought the next 2 books in this series. This was an emotional rollercoaster with perfect narration.

Great audio for one of my favourite ever series...

Wonderful. One of my fave ever series has finally appeared on audio, and was very well narrated by John Solo...although I have to admit I was half expecting him to come out with Patrick's voice from Leta Blake's Wake Up Married Serial, Episodes 1 - 3 and Wake Up Married serial, Episodes 4 - 6: Fight Their Feelings, Meet the Mob, Happy Ending...both of which were brilliant by the way 😁. Can't wait until A Clean Break is released later this month I believe. 5 stars from me.

Very sweet

Surprisingly sweet love story, with the appropriate level of spice. Also appreciated the effort put into making sure the Amish “context” is accurate
Narration was ok, wish he hadn’t made the 18yo sound so childish

heartbreaking love story

I liked the characters and the story, but I wish we could have more of the relationship development. It felt a little rushed for two guys who had such closed and traditional upbringing.

My heart was broke for them and their families.

Great performance by John Solo, who is a hit-or-miss narrator for me, but he nailed this one.

An outstanding audiobook!

This is such an amazing moving story. My heart went out to both David and Isaac as they fell in love and dealt with their families and Amish community. It's narrated wonderfully by John Solo. He gauges the emotions and passions between the two men perfectly.

An amazing start to the series

I didn’t actually realise this was a series when I first picked it - I just auto bought as Keira Andrews is a favourite author of mine.

I absolutely loved this audio - John Solo is one of my top narrators and he did an amazing job of portraying both Isaac and David. It was amazing to look into Amish life - something that I’ve never really thought about before, but it was fascinating. An absolutely amazing listen and I’ve auto purchased the next one!

A touching story

A touching story of forbidden love and the stress and heartbreak that comes from someone dictating what one can and can't do.💕

Forbidden love

Where to begin ? An astounding performance by John Solo of an incredibly beautiful story. Detailing the Amish lifestyle and traditions whilst telling the passionate and highly intimate relationship between Isaac and David. I have just finished my second reading and love it even more than my first time.

Beautiful

I was apprehensive picking this one up because strong religious themes aren't usually my cup of tea and although the setting of Isaac & David's story is the very strict Amish community Zebulon in which they both live the love story was front and centre with the religious aspect being the cornerstone conflict. I don't know much at all about the Amish community but I feel like I learned things through this story, everything felt tangible and real, the curiosity and questions both David, Isaac and other young people in the community had were completely understandable, the internal struggles of who they are, finding each other attractive and wanting another man in the way these two do both emotionally and physically goes against everything they have been taught their entire lives and coming to terms with the fact they either have to be miserable apart in order to join the church and stay with their families or for them to get their HEA they must leave their community, their families and all they have ever known behind and enter a world they are woefully unprepared for was heart-wrenching to read.

I adored this read, 3rd person can be hit or miss for me and this hit. The pacing of the story was great and I'm glad the author didn't try to cram what I'm expecting to me a complex and emotional story overall into one book and that I get to read two more. The chemistry between David and Isaac was electric and the spice was great, the emotional connection wasn't overshadowed by it which is a bonus. I liked that this wasn't written in a black or white way and didn't try to villainise the Amish community in order for these two to figure out what they wanted, it presented the very real struggles I'm sure a lot of people from that community can face, not necessarily the sexuality component but I'm sure that plays it's part, but definitely the questioning of their ways of life etc. The constant fear they had of being discovered created some delicious tension & angst throughout the story, the romance was earnest, sweet and soulful and the religious aspect handled with respect. A fantastic read with characters that you can't help but root for and want to protect, I can't wait to see where the next two books take Isaac & David. 🌶🌶
