About this listen

By calling everything into doubt, Descartes laid the foundations of modern philosophy. With the celebrated words "I think therefore I am," his compelling argument swept aside ancient and medieval traditions. He deduced that human beings consist of minds and bodies; that these are totally distinct "substances"; that God exists and that He ensures we can trust the evidence of our senses. Ushering in the "scientific revolution" of Galileo and Newton, his ideas have set the agenda for debate ever since. His philosophical methods and investigation changed the course of Western philosophy and led to or transformed the fields of metaphysics, epistemology, physics and mathematics, political theory and ethics.Public Domain (P)2009 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Historically important… But also a complete drag to get through

Well done audiobook. Clear voice. Good translation. This really helped me get through this somewhat insane quicksand pit of ideas. The discourse on method is better/more interesting of the two halves but gee~ just how much Mr. Descartes takes time to go through it. Both halves have great ideas but there is just so much filler in-between. It’s exhausting. Afterwards you wonder if you really know nothing at all for real.

Contains Discourse, Meditations, and Principles.

Just leaving this review to point out that the other reviewer is mistaken - this audiobook contains A Discourse on Method, Meditations on First Philosophy, and Principles of Philosophy, and so is as advertised (actually with more content, not less). Meditations begin on chapter 7. Principles begins on Chapter 16.
Performance and production are both excellent.
