I wasn’t always cold-hearted and vindictive.
She made me that way.
Charlotte Davis...the most beautiful and privileged princess there is.
I’d kill for her to be mine. We met by chance at her father’s wedding...and then again years later.
But she forgot about me. Ignored me. Enraged me.
Then her father did the unforgivable, and I made it my lifelong goal to ruin him....
By taking her as payment towards a debt he owed.

gripping
Another brilliant book by Clarissa wild ! This book had me hooked straight away , I loved the little back story we got and even tho I do feel bad for Charlotte as really she didn't do anything to deserve what's happening to her I really like Easton and hes not the bad character hes made out to be , the whole storyline just kept me gripped and wanting more the whole time, it kind of ends on a cliffhanger but nothing massive but I absolutely cannot wait for book 2 , its going to be amazing
I read this first but listening to it brings it to a whole new level , the narrators just really bring this story to life , whether u read to it or listen to it it's an absolute must have

Keeps you on your toes!
A great start to such an interesting story. Love the dialogue between the main characters and the woman is adorably sassy, abrupt and rude. The man is a brute and so sexy in what he says and does!! What a combination. Great read.

Struggled with certain areas
Ok, this is quite a difficult review, as although I loved the idea of the storyline and generally enjoy some dark romance, the cut off line between what I enjoy listening to, and what disturbs me can be very fine. I know this, yet seem to keep getting drawn to these books again. I listened to both books in the duet before leaving my review and I have to admit I prefer the second one. I really struggle with cruelty for the sake of it, even when the party's involved seem to derive enjoyment. Easterns drive for vengeance (although understandable) and the way he cruelly treated Charlotte in his quest for this vengeance is what I struggled with, although at the same time found I was drawn to listen to the book was found it very emotive.
I did give in listening at one point, although curiosity and intrigue led me to pick it back up and carry on with it.

revenge and resistance with fantastic narration
Rating: story 4.25, narration 5
I listened to the audio version of this and I have say the two narrators were excellent! What was also different was when it was Eastons pov (wow his voice) if Charlotte spoke, the female narrator said her words and vice versa. I've not heard narration done like that before and I loved it!
Easton is a grade A a-hole out for revenge. He's so bitter and wants to destroy Charlotte's father, so takes his daughter against her will as payment for his debt. I totally understand his quest for revenge against Charlotte's father, but Charlotte herself? That "incident" has festered out of control into a big messy open wound that I'm not sure can heal, unless Easton can allow the defenses around his heart to crumble and let out the softer side from his youth (if it still exists) and admit he went about things all wrong with Charlotte.
Charlotte is a strong, feisty, sassy woman but fairly innocent to the ways of the world. She's been betrayed in the worst way by the one person who is supposed to love her unconditionally, her father. She's not about to lie down and submit though and fights Easton all the way, despite the attraction her body feels but her mind hates. I really liked her.
I have the audible only so can't give the exact quote, but Charlotte says words to the effect of:
...You want my love but you give me nothing of yourself to love....
And that is what I love most about these type of storylines, the moment when the guy realises he wants her happiness and her love given freely, the hate, the revenge just doesn't matter anymore. Redemption is sweet! That is what I'm really hoping for in book two, because I have to be honest, I don't like Easton very much at the moment. I'm sure there's a smidgen of nice human being there, but he's playing hard to get!
This is an enemies to.....well I can't say lovers yet because there is still a lot of hate going on, despite their combustable chemistry. I really liked the story though, I looked forward to listening to more each mornin for the journey to work, but whoa, that ending!....it's a cliffhanger, so I'm going straight on to book two, I need to know how this plays out!! Go Charlotte, bring that man to his knees 😉

A dark romance
A really engaging story from Clarissa Wild, this is a dark suspenseful audiobook. This story moved along really well. There were flashbacks between the past and present with the story continuously developing. Charlotte was an amazing woman. She is so well written. She is strong and fiesty, clever and always looking for a way out. Easton on the other hand, was dark, foreboding, devious and thoroughly unlikeable. He was also truly arrogant and that was a weakness that Charlotte was able to exploit to perfection. The author really developed these characters so well.
This story ended on a cliffhanger for a second part, but also in a way felt like a complete novel.
I also have to add that I thought the narration was excellent. It was dual narration, but each narrator spoke their own parts in conversation with each other, and that really added to the experience for me. Additionally I felt the narrators really embodied the characters superbly.

Unbelievably amazing
This is one of those books that doesn’t let you rest the whole time you are reading. It’s full of twists turns and ups and downs. Did I love this book? Yes, do I need to re listen to this book to fully capture everything that occurred? Yes. There are so many emotions brought forward I think this is my favourite of Clarissas books to date
