Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms – but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory's purpose.
To the north, in the Queendom of Inys, Sabran the Ambitious has married the new King of Hróth, narrowly saving both realms from ruin. Their daughter, Glorian, trails in their shadow – exactly where she wants to be.
The dragons of the East have slept for centuries. Dumai has spent her life in a Seiikinese mountain temple, trying to wake the gods from their long slumber. Now someone from her mother's past is coming to upend her fate.
When the Dreadmount erupts, bringing with it an age of terror and violence, these women must find the strength to protect humankind from a devastating threat.
Intricate and epic, A Day of Fallen Night sweeps listeners back to the world of A Priory of the Orange Tree, showing us a course of events that shaped it for generations to come.

amazing!!!
Wow, this book is just epic! As a prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree, I read it first and I couldn't put it down! Everything was beautifully written with so much detail and it was just brilliant! Can't wait for more in the series xx

Slow pace to start but worth it to keep going
I love the diverse cast of characters in race, gender, sexuality and age. The world building seems like it's just scrarching the surface. I would advise listening on increased speed (i did 1.2x speed myself) especially for the Dumai chapters whose narrator has a very dreamlike and slow narration style. But definitely a recommendation for epic fantasy lovers.

Great return to this world
I really enjoy how relationships are characterised in this book, without just labelling everything, they just happen which I think is nice

Much Better Then Priory
As the title says, I like the storylines and characters much more then Priory. The pacing is better and the performance is great. The East plot is my least favourite part of it but it gets better as time goes on.

5/5
A truly epic, complex and engrossing fantasy. Wyrms return to the world, causing upheaval in the lives of the four main protagonists.
- The characters followed in this book are truly wonderful. We get to follow a royal princess, a bereaved mother, a godsinger who has only lived on a mountain and a foundling mentored by a king. Each of these characters made me feel so much and I grew to love them all in their own ways.
- This world is truly epic and well built. Each facet has its own nuance, beliefs, culture and so much more. The lands are alive and it feels like Shannon spent a long time making it just right.
- A slightly specific point but as a midwife myself I applaud Shannon for how well the pregnancy and birth scenes of this book are done. Often in fiction these things are poorly done but I came away from those feeling like everything that happened was accurate and likely.
- If you've read The Priory of the Orange Tree and just happened to wonder, then yes, this is gay. Enjoy.
One of the best epic fantasy books I've read. I hope Shannon obliges us with further books set in this world.
