About this listen

Audible Studios presents a brand new recording of Charles Dickens' timeless seasonal story A Christmas Carol, performed by Hugh Grant.

First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially.

One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

A great story and a true Christmas Classic.

I got this for free from Audible and figured that I should finish it before the Epiphany (twelfth day of Christmas) and just about squeaked in.

I didn't expect this to be a witty as it was and although you know the story, Dickens's detail and additions were very welcome, 'Marley was dead as a doornail' 'one would think a coffin nail would be the deadest type of iron mongery but I'll defer to my ancestors'

Hugh Grant really made the characters come alive as well as the narrator.

A great story and a true Christmas Classic.

An excellent interpretation

Every version of the Christmas Carol is compared to the Muppet Christmas Carol. (The greatest film ever made). And this audible version is excellent. Although there are no singing pigs and Michael Caine. Hugh Grant narrates the story to a really high standard and the Dickensian atmosphere is clearly brought to life in his oration.
