Summary
4 Riverside Close is a compelling psychological thriller with a touch of mystery. If you are a fan of authors like Clare Mackintosh, Lisa Jewell and Lesley Kara, you'll love this unmissable debut.
How well do you know your neighbours? When residents of a North London cul-de-sac enrol in a seemingly innocent social network, they soon find themselves embroiled in a murky web of sinister manipulation and murder. From the outside, Caroline and Jason Swinton have an idyllic life. But when the cracks start to appear, the residents of Riverside Close are drawn into a dangerous game. When Jason’s body is discovered in a house on the close, everyone becomes a suspect.
Could his lovely wife be responsible for his murder? Or do the neighbours have a motive for wanting him dead?
As the secret lives of those living on the Close are gradually revealed, it becomes clear that someone is hiding something they will stop at nothing to protect....

Too much flipping back and forth
This story was confusing because the time line wasn’t explained properly. Too much switching from past to present.

Slow burn thriller
Audiobook Review: Narrated by Jennifer Ness.
Firstly, the four star goes to the audio production and the brilliant and engaging Jennifer Ness, a very talented imo, narrator who had be listening whilst I was driving, working and doing my chores. Her voice kept me with my pods in.
For the actual plot and story I have to give it just a 3* rating
How well do you know your neighbours?
When residents of a North London cul-de-sac enrol in a seemingly innocent social network, they soon find themselves embroiled in a murky web of sinister manipulation and murder.
From the outside, Caroline and Jason Swinton have an idyllic life. But when the cracks start to appear the residents of Riverside Close are drawn into a dangerous game. They have set up an online dating app where he goes on dates and blags money out of rich, unsuspecting and lonely women.
There are two main POVs in this book one is Caroline the wife of Jason aka numerous other names that totally confused me tbh and Susan the woman having an affair with Jason, the unsuspecting other woman.
I didn't really like either of these women, but I wanted to know where this particular story would go and like I've said the narrator was so good that I hung on. It's a slow thriller read, nothing really seems to happen until closer to the end when someone is found murdered, so there were pretty long stretches of nothingness, and although I didn't guess who the murderer was, I think because my focus wasn't always on the story and I was getting so confused by who was actually who, and all the identities of Jason that I admit to switching off at times. I've read so many strong and powerful thrillers that I honestly think this one's plot/story just didn't captivate me quite as much as I thought it would by the title, synopsis and cover which drew me in on Audible.
The good points, the book had well developed characters, just because I didn't identify or like any of them is not taking away from the author, Diana Wilkinson that her characters were well rounded and had immense depth. Her side characters, the old lady in the cul-de-sac was my favorite, meddlesome but sweet.

Really needs 4 narrators
It was quite hard to follow which of the characters chapters were being told as the narrator didn’t change pace or tone. Especially as they were all telling the same story from different perspectives

Easy listen
I enjoyed the story. However it got confusing as to who was who. The narrator should have changed voices for each woman character.

Ok for a freebie, reasonable narration
Nothing major to write home about but ok to listen to passively whilst doing other jobs

Intrigue.
This book is a warning of our time. It is really well crafted and the characters so well drawn. It was full of surprises and the end was so neatly tied up.

Poor naration
Had to restart it 3 times as voices caused confusion should have used other narrators.
