Summary
As a believer, there are two ways for a person to live; one is to do everything yourself/by your own power and the other way is to do things by completely relying on and functioning by his power that comes from the Holy Spirit.
Incidentally, the choice is yours. God does not force us to rely on him, even though he expects us to do so. To a large extent those who fail to rely on God always regret it!
David in the Book of Samuel clearly understood the impact derived from complete reliant on the Holy Spirit when he came to battle with Goliath is first Samuel 17. He declared: "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands."
Paul had a similar experience in second Corinthians chapter 1v8-11 8: "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many."
