About this listen
Red: Lázhien’s human. A common Imperial soldier. And my soulmate. How could fate get it so wrong? The demon in me craves this bond with every shred of his being. He pushes me to accept it. This time I won’t yield to his demands.
Lázhien: Red’s a lust demon, a whore and a stuck-up snob. The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. Pain in the arse. And he hates my guts. I’d be an idiot to pursue him. Yet something about him compels me to make him mine.
When I First Saw Red is a complete and stand-alone short novel with an HEA ending, featuring a couple of reluctant fated soulmates - a demon and a human - trying and failing to defy destiny.

Surprisingly sweet
Cornell Collins narrates this so well. Each of the voices are distinctive so there's no mixing up pov's whilst listening. I also enjoy the inflections put on some of the sentences. It makes for a great listen.
Story wise, there's a lot of heat and they deny their bond to begin with but once they get together? The sweetness!
Oh and the epilogue was utterly adorable and made me laugh and smile throughout.
loved it

Enemies to lovers, fated mates
I love this author's characters and there is also always amazing world building in her books.
Red and Lazhien are complete polar opposites having been raised in different environments.
There is instant animosity between them that quickly ratchets up to sizzling chemistry both try to deny.
I absolutely loved Red's sassy, snarky self and Lazhien's stoic steadfastness.
Cornell Collins did an amazing job bringing these characters to life.

Talk about reluctant mates!
I adored both characters. Ōkkanȏ is so disgruntled and reticent when he finds out the lust demon he shares a body with has found his soulmate in a human, and a soldier at that. Lázhien might be the most attractive man he has ever seen, but that doesn’t mean he wants to be his mate, he will fight this with everything he has! He acts aloof and prickly, but the more we read, the more it’s clear that’s just a front to prevent rejection.
Lázhien is a gruff, often grumpy drill sergeant, but the moment he lays eyes on Ōkkanȏ he knows he has found someone special. And he does a lot to get to what he wants.
The universe Kasia Bacon has created is a delight to read and never ceases to surprise and amaze me. This story is no exception and Cornell Collins did a good job with transporting us in its midst.

A sexy, emotional, fantastical romance
Lázhien and Red's romance captivated me from the first few sentences, and I remained entranced the whole time I was listening. Cornell Collins is a new narrator for me, and he did a wonderful job chronicling these men's journey. From the snarky, sarcastic way he portrayed Red to his gruffer, dominating voice for Lázhien, Collins made these characters come to life for me. The writing style of this story was also exquisite, and I genuinely enjoyed the back and forth these characters had when first realizing their mate bond. Their sexual chemistry was off-the-charts, insanely intoxicating, but what intrigued me even more was the emotional battle these men went through. It was fascinating to see the dual souls of Red and his demon side fight each other, and Lázhien certainly didn't reveal his feelings easily either. For a while I was in despair about these idiots letting their bond break for good, but luckily they got their act together before it was too late. It's hard to believe how hard the two of them fought against fate after seeing how sweet and settled they were in the epilogue, but I suppose the ending wouldn't have been as satisfying had it been smooth sailing the entire way.

Steamy and sweet
This is a wonderful book that packs a punch of both steam and sweetness and interesting and detailed world building. I loved both the MCs, both seperate and together, they proved complex and genuinely likeable. The supporting cast was also interesting and likeable.
Cornell Collins is the perfect narrator for this book, both MCs were spot on in his voice.
I also liked the language of the book, it’s descriptive, both to the point and flourishing at the same time, and very easy on the ears. This book is high heat, low angst, and interesting plot and I’ll be sure to check out more of this author’s work in the furure.

Hot and steamy
First time read of this author and this narrator. Feel Good HEA, and some scorching sex scenes. Very realistic accents.

Wow! Great story, perfect narration 🤩
When I first read the story, I couldn't believe how full the story was in well under 200 pages. it has pretty much everything - fantastic world, humour, (sly wit with some of the words), excellent characters in Lazhien, Red and some of the secondary characters, lust, affectionand love. But most of all, a story that made me wish it was longer. Ms. Bacon knows how to grab one's attention and keep.
Now, add a performer like Cornell Collins to the mix, and you have a perfect way to spend 4.5 hours. Listening to him bring Lazhien and Red to life has been a most enjoyable experience! He is so good with class and regional accents, emotions, subtle humour that I wished the story was longer, just so I could hear more.
Definitely recommend and this is already in my re-listen group!

Steamy, broken, and beautiful love story!
An half elf, half incubus with low self worth and a human connects in a brothel. What a unique way to discover your soul mate. Two completely opposite persons whom wants nothing to do with each other yet can't ignore the pull of their impending bond. This is a unique world that Kasia Bacon built with some exquisite characters and it intrigued and kept my attention the entire time. This is a beautiful fated mates novella that I adore. Cornell Collins narration was very enjoyable as well, my only issue was his female voice, that requires some work.

Demon and human
Two people who had nothing in common and everything to say that things were not meant to be, so a relationship between a human and a demon isn't normal, but to these two, it meant everything,
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed this story and the characters.
Cornell Collins, as always, was a pleasure to listen to, clean and concise. I did speed up this narration which is usual for me.
