Summary

Twenty years ago, monsters rose on earth and began a new age of civilization.

One where humans live in military-controlled, cramped and dirty cities along the coasts, and the majority of the United States is known as the Wastes. A lawless, desolate and dangerous place, teeming with monsters that have claimed the land for their own.

Including Wyn the Soul Eater.

He appears every three years, making his way across the country and slaughtering humans randomly, sucking them dry until they’re nothing but husks.

I’ve only been in the military for six months, but now I’m part of a unit tasked with trying to stop and capture him. And when I’m the only soldier out of hundreds that the Soul Eater leaves alive, I realise that something about me has intrigued him.

But what is it? What could a twenty-three-year-old guy from the south, with no one and nothing in the world, have possibly done to capture the attention of a death monster with horns, blackened fingertips and a face hidden in the dark depths of his hood?

Soul Eater is book one of Monstrous, a post-apocalyptic fantasy series featuring monsters and human men falling in love. It is a m/m love story and contains sexually explicit content and graphic depictions of torture and violence.

Brilliant

This is my first 5⭐️ read of 2024. I loved every minute of this story, it was captivating and kept me thouroughly entertained from start to finish. The premise was so interesting, the world building was done well, the pacing of the story was great and the narrators performance was fantastic. This is my first audiobook narrated by Michael Lesley and it won't be my last, he is incredibly talented and did an excellent job providing such distinctive voices to each character. I can't wait to do book 2.

An all time favorite series!

Since reading this series last fall I have been totally hooked on everything from Lily Mayne. The release of this audiobook came at the perfect time as I had just finished reading the newest book in the series, Lor, and was really wanting to revisit the Monstrous series world with a reread. I'm not really sure what I expected Danny and Wyn to sound like (like I completely forgot Danny was from New Orleans), but though its definitely different than they sound in my head, the narration by Michael Lesley was really well done and I can't wait for book 2 because I am obsessed with the voice for Edin! If you love monster romance with equal parts humor and swoon, with just a bit of post-apocalyptic flare I strongly recommend this series!

Nice book!

I very much enjoyed listening to it!
The story is different and changes a bit from other M/M. The characters are nice and we don’t get bored.

Michael does a great job with the narration, I liked how the demons voices were perfomred and the accents as well.

It’s not super dark, some torture scenes and the fact that it’s a human/demon relationship but nothing disgusting so it can be listened to by a wide public I’d say.

Enjoyed the monster voices, Danny not so much

Narrator did a great job with the monsters but Danny sounded way too old and grizzled for his character. Didn't ruin it but took some time to get used to.

Loved it!

I was already a fan of this book, but this audiobook brought it to life. The voices were perfect and I didn't want it to end - I can't wait for the rest of this series to be on audio too!

Brilliant, Funny and adorable

This is the first time I have read human and monster love stories, and I loved it. I couldn't have started with a better series if I tried.
From the beginning, all the characters, even the horrible Military, captivate you.
But as for WYN, well, he was adorable even when he was shouting, causing mayhem, and just being grumpy. The way he helped Danny. You could tell he was falling for him. I loved Danny's southern accent, the innocent way he would talk and talk about anything, and how sweet he was. He was such an innocent man, and this was one of the reasons why Wyn was falling for him; for the first time, he found a friendly human.
Michael Lesley is superb, and I think he got Danny and Wyn's voices perfect. Wyn, being one of the most feared creatures, had to have a commanding voice. And Danny Louisiana's talk was excellent. Thank you, Lily Mayne. I am now a follower and keen to get the rest of the Series to see what happens.

Great Monster story

This is a first time author and narrator for me. I love the story, even though there was some violence and was lots of humour as well, I really liked Wyn and Danny, they made a sweet couple and were suited to each other. Michael narration was very good, I really liked his voice for Wyn, Danny and the other characters. I'm looking forward to getting the next book about Edin, who we met in this book.
