About this listen

Maddox - The reason I rarely go home is three simple words: I'm a liar.

When the pressure to marry my childhood sweetheart became too much, I told her I was gay and then fled to New York like my ass was on fire.

Now, five years later and after a drunken encounter, I find myself invited to her wedding. And I have to bring my boyfriend-the boyfriend who doesn't exist because I'm straight.

At least, I think I am. Meeting the guy I'm bribing to be my boyfriend for the weekend makes me question everything about myself.

Damon - When my sister asks me to pretend to be some straight guy's boyfriend, my automatic response is to say no. It's because of guys like him people don't believe me when I tell them I'm gay.

But Maddox has something I need.

After an injury that cost me my baseball career, I'm trying to leave my playing days behind and focus on being the best sports agent I can be. Forty-eight hours with my sister's best friend in exchange for a meeting with a possible client. I can do this.

I just wish he wasn't so hot. Or that he didn't kiss like he means it.

Wait... why is the straight guy kissing me?

Contains mature themes.

Fake boyfriend or not?

Need a fake boyfriend for your ex-girlfriend's wedding? Well, that's just how Maddox got himself into a deeper mess than what he already had.

He asks his best friend to pair him up with her gay brother Damon, but Maddox has feelings, should he act on them.

This is a good story, ex-sports college guys, faking relationships for parents, then falling for them.

Well narrated didn't realise until I was writing this review that there were two narrators, clean editing. However, I enjoyed the whole story/narration.

🎧 AUDIO REVIEW 🎧

🌟🌟🌟🌟

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, audio to listen to was really amazing. Made me really enjoy the book.

I loved them together and I loved the way the story came about. I thought they was a match and I liked it didn’t drag on and on. Was a get down to it story with issues and what they over come together.

On KU definitely recommend reading or listening.

Loved this book

The narrators really brought the witty banter between the two main characters to life, at times I laughed out loud. I will definitely put it in my favourites and enjoy listening to it again.

Queer awakening

I needed gym reads, these jocks seemed like a good choice. I'm going to reread all of the Fake Boyfriends books this way.

Just as I remembered this book was a complete treat to read. Damon and Maddox are wonderful.
Maddox is SO okay with falling for Damon and Damon is pissed at himself for falling for the straight guy. This book literally ticks so many of my boxes and was like a cozy hug from a friend.

The only things of note are firstly that it is new adult. I would LOVE if these guys had been a half decade older. Second, Maddox’s bio mom’s MS (this is totally personal to me); I’m so tired of reading about side characters with MS who are “dying” or “making the most of the time they have left”. Less than 15% people with MS have intense disease onset and people die with MS not from MS (I have a small car sized chip on my shoulder). While I appreciate the disability/chronic illness visibility, I just wish it had been less dramatic.

Narration was perfect - Alexander Cendese and Iggy Toma are a dream team.

Fake Out - Losing my review virginity!

Hilarious laugh out loud book, i must of looked like an idiot driving along belly laughing, narrators are so good especially Alexander Cendese, who just knows how to build the story up contrasts so well with Iggy Toma's deadpan wit. These guys just work!
If you want an easy to listen to story, humourus, but still a good plot this is the one!
Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Enjoyable and easy to listen to

The voices were pleasent even though it'd be nice if they could get women to do the women voices I realize that takes extra money most wouldn't have.

The being said the voices given to the female roles weren't bad.

The plot was interesting and I can't wait to buy the next book.

A lovely story

I really enjoyed it, it's a really sweet story.

I really liked Damon & Maddox. They were so sweet together & there was some natural progression to their relationship.

Maddox was a sweetie pie & Damon, bless him, he'd had such a bad experience that you can't help but feel for him & want to do some serious damage to the dude who hurt him!

The only downside for me in this book is Stacey, Damon's sister.

I know that I'm supposed to think she's such a cool character, but because she's such an underdeveloped & one dimensional character, I really struggled to like her... at all! Actually, by the end, I honestly couldn't stand her.

She's incredibly narcissistic, with such a "look at me attitude" that she's beyond toxic. She's so incredibly self-centered that she plans a surprise dinner that she knew was gonna be problematic for the boys for some incredibly juvenile & petty revenge!

She's honestly such a horrid character & it's played off as it being cutesy, that I ended up speeding up past her bits. She's so awful that she even makes her brother's graduation all about herself & nearly kills someone. She's awful & she spoiled the story whenever she was in it!

Sadly as she's the main secondary character, she's in it far more than I cared for.

Aside from toxicity disguised as friendship, it's a really good book that it's not all light & fluff, but it's mostly sweet throughout!

Worth a read!

fun story with unnecessary drama

I really liked both characters, they were smart and funny and I defo lold on the bus while listening.
their will they won't they build up was great and I was rooting for them both. but the drama of the bio mom turning up was just unnecessary and the house hunting mix up also needless.
