Summary
This novel contains graphic sexual descriptions and themes and is intended for adults only.
Arabella is a work of Victorian erotica that is, in some ways very much like Fanny Hill but in others very different. Both have many explicit descriptions of sexual activity, but Fanny Hill never uses "bawdy language". Arabella, the narrator of the story, has no problems using such language. As one reviewer wrote, "In the tradition of Fanny Hill, but far steamier!"
Arabella is a proud woman of Victorian England who rebels against the puritanical norms of society. She learns early in life that she loves the pleasures of sex and is in no way ashamed of her feelings. In fact, she felt sorry for women who did not experience the joys of sex but saw it merely as a rather "shameful duty". She describes, in great detail, the many “erotic adventures” she and her friends participate in behind the closed doors of fashionable Victorian homes. Like many erotic books of the Victorian era, her story gives a fascinating look at the "sexual underground" of Victorian society.
