About this listen
This book is a collection of short stories. In each of these I wrap an interesting story around a science concept. Because I am as concerned about good internal consistency as I am good story telling, these are stories that are fun because they take different twists from those found in conventional speculative fiction.
These stories are different.
In one story, "The Failure", two scientists create a new species of life. But it's not a biological species, it's a cyberspecies. And while it's much more powerful and intelligent than humans, it's not going to be either a devil or a god to mankind; it has its own worries and aspirations. The point of the story is that there are many other relations besides evil overlord and loving patriarch between humans and an intelligent successor species. The failure part is because these scientists are seeking a way to increase manufacturing productivity, not create a new species. Ah well... Now they will have to try again.
In another story, "Searching for Angels", two scientists labor to summon a 4D being into our 3D plane of existence. The being is one that has been written about in the Bible - an angel! They succeed, but then comes the twist. This story explores how beings of different dimensionality can relate to each other, and it's not easy!
In all these stories I take an interesting science or technology concept and then wrap an interesting unconventional story of human motivation around it. If you like thinking about your science fiction, this book is fun!
This is Volume Two and it's about stories that take place on earth. Volume One is about stories that take place in space and on distant worlds.
