About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
An authoritative analysis that busts 22 deep-rooted myths about migration - and sets out a new way to think about it
Global migration is not at an all-time high.
Climate change will not lead to mass migration.
Immigration mainly benefits the wealthy, not workers.
Border restrictions have paradoxically produced more migration.
These statements might sound counter-intuitive or just outright wrong - but the facts behind the headlines reveal a completely different story to the ones we're told about migration. In this ground-breaking and revelatory book, based on more than three decades of research, leading expert Professor Hein de Haas explodes myths espoused by both left and right that politicians, interest groups and media regularly spread about migration.
Comparing trends and perspectives from Western 'destination countries' (UK, US and Europe) as well as 'origin countries' in Asia, Africa and Latin America, de Haas equips readers with essential knowledge on migration based on the best evidence and data, showing migration not as a problem to be solved, nor as a solution to a problem, but as it really is.
Above all, How Migration Really Works offers a new vision of migration based on facts rather than fears, and a paradigm-altering understanding of this perennially important subject.

A must listen/read
Once you have read or listened to this, you will not be able to listen to any politician discussing migration without being first amused, and then incandescently angry, at their almost total ignorance, arrogance and desire only to con the electorate.

really struggling to finish this
I apologise, but I firmly disagree with the myths surrounding migration based on the available data. I get that you think these are made up by the media, but there are a lot of issues that are not made public. For instance, they many stabbings and rapes that foreign people mostly do andnot made headlines, or been policed so cant show facts or data In comparison to your data on estimation, which states the ratio of the number of women to men living in the town, I believe there are more women than men. But if look google data more men same as looking into imagration have got correct i see hell alot more in town and cite driving around but your data saying not that much uk has the same population as new york but we are much different built the new york.
The jobs indicated that immigrants do are tiny jobs ? Big jobs like news reader, doctors actors i disagree; they are thaking up more of the pesntage of jobs in the UK, if there are openings for positions like chef that are posted on job sites, i know of companie that fly in two chef for different country and then sponsor to work. Because the company cant not find anyone to work at all with a job post been online so long cant find anyone wolder be cheaper to get a uk citizen but no one looks to have the skills.

political bias is obvious, dull and rehashing the same points in different ways to a boring end.
struggled to get through the book, there is only so many times you can hear the same argument reworded before you switch off!
