About this listen

School should have been the safest place....

For Lizzie Riley, switching her eight-year-old son Tom to the local academy school marks a fresh start, post-divorce. With its excellent reputation and outstanding results, Lizzie knows it’ll be a safe space away from home.

But there's something strange happening at school.

Parents are forbidden from entering the grounds and inside, there are bars across the classroom windows. Why is Tom coming home exhausted, unable to remember anything about his day? What are the strange marks on his arm? And when Lizzie tries to question the other children, why do they seem afraid to talk?

Tom’s new school might seem picture-perfect. But sometimes appearances can be deceiving....

wo. Totally didn't see that coming!

I've literally only just finished this book in the last 30 minutes, and all I can say is, wo. I've read a lot of thrillers with twists in my time, but that was a total twist in every sense of the word. It's very hard to review this book without giving away spoilers, but I am pretty sure that you, like me, won't be able to stop once you start. I thought I knew exactly ish, where the story was going, how the characters felt, and questioning the school. Nope, completely wrong. I had tears in my eyes at the end. Well done Sussie, brilliant writing! You totally got me there!

Captivating

Initially this book seemed to follow what seemed to be a predictable storyline, but all I will say is to stick with it and you won’t be disappointed!
Great characterisation - Imogen Church is an exceptionally good narrator - she never lets a book down!

A bit boring in places and the narration was hit and miss , didn’t expect the ending which was good .

Another stay up all night book

WOW, this one really was a treat, an abused women escapes with her son to a new location, is given a place for her son in a sought after school which turns out to be not quite as described, scary stuf, but the ending, well this is something that I've not stumbled over in literature before, I am well aware of the issue and it certainly needs highlighting but it came as a surprise in this book, it really did, I think Ms Quinn played a blinder with this one, I really do.

Imogen Church narrates it marvellously as always.

Buy it, listen to it, it is one to be truly appreciated.

Don't tell the Teacher

I thoroughly enjoyed this book which moved briskly along whilst allowing the plot to emerge slowly but cleverly. I must commend the narrator Imogen Church who was so easy on the ear and brought the story to life.
