About this listen

When Penelope Kite swaps her humdrum life in Surrey for a picturesque farmhouse in the south of France, she imagines a simple life of long lunches and chilled rosé....

What she doesn't imagine is the dead body floating in her swimming pool. Convinced that the victim suffered more than a drunken accident, Penelope plunges headlong into local intrigue and long-simmering resentments to uncover the truth. But with a meddling estate agent, an unfriendly Chief of Police, a suspiciously charming Mayor, and the endless temptation of that second pain au chocolat, life in the delightful village of St Merlot is certainly never simple.

Curl up and escape to the sunshine of Provence with this deliciously entertaining mystery!

The perfect summer read

A completely captivating plot which keeps you guessing - right until the final chapters .

Descriptions of Provence enthrall and transport you to those hilltop towns , the authenticity of the characters particularly the French realtor and handsome mayor contribute much to the mystery and keep the pages turning. I’d intended a speed read - but this was too engaging.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I’m an old bloke who likes a good murder mystery and this and the second book Death in Provence proved very entertaining. I’m hoping that there will be a third at least!

My Perfect Beach Read for The Summer.

Escapism, as you are taken on a journey of intrigue, tantalised with the scene setting which transports you into the world and indeed mind of Penelope, the central character.

A fabulously well put together plot line I'll endeavour not to spoil by telling you the details. Just pick up your bag, put the book inside it and away you go. Don't leave home without it, unless you're locking yourself in an indulgent bath or a secret room. This is all about you time and indulging in the delights offered up to you by a very talented, creative mind. On audio to really transport you with closed eyes lounging in the sun, or turning each crisp page with mounting anticipation.

You'll be hooked and ready for the next one. I most certainly am!

Enjoyable Story - Pity about the French Accent

I enjoyed the story very much, the characters are well drawn and the plotline moves along at pace. Unfortunately, the narrator adopts a really irritating ''Allo! 'Allo!" style French accent which, at times, descends into comedy. I can't remember my Aunt, who was born and raised in Angouleme ever pronouncing the word 'debts' as 'depps'!!

One of my favourites

I’ve listened to this several times. Wish there were more more than two books. I like the narrator and have searched and listened to other books she’s performed. Perfect!

A great adventure

Penelope sets off to Provence and comes across a dead body in her swimming pool. Then follows her sleuthing with her friend Frankie while consuming lots of rose wine. Local police not helpful but a gorgeous mayor who seems to on her side as well as a very chic efficient estate agent. Great fun beautifully read..
